Meet Alvin - Medical Hold

Alvin was a stray and was on his own long enough to contract some nasty heartworms!  He will be undergoing treatment after the 30 days of antibiotics required.  Please check back for updates on Alvin's health and treatment.

Update on Alvin 11/27:
We went to the vet today. X-rays show that this little guy has had heartworm for a while. The right side of his heart is bulging from all the worms in it. The vet can see "debris" from the heartworms in his lungs. He's at stage 2 of heartworm disease, which is surprising for a dog his age. (Between 1-2 yrs old.) The good news is that he's put on some weight and he's young so he should be able to put up a good fight against this painful disease. He started the doxycycline today. So far, he's tolerating that well. We have several months of vetting ahead of us, so keep sending Alvin your positive thoughts and prayers.

Suggested adoption donation for Alvin is a minimum of $400 and goes toward the high cost of veterinary care for our rescue dogs. Wag N Train Terrier Rescue adopts to other geographical areas as long as we can find a local volunteer to perform the courtesy home visit, and requires the adopter to travel to Omaha, NE to pick up their newly adopted dog. We do not arrange transport, or fly our rescue dogs without a "pet nanny". A securely fenced yard is necessary to adopt one of our terriers. Please note: invisible or underground fencing is not considered secure or appropriate containment for terriers.
