***Solara is a sweet, sensitive little Dachshund who is looking for a patient home where she can finally feel safe and loved.***
Solara is a 6-year-old red smooth-haired Dachshund with a gentle spirit and a story that has shaped who she is today. She came from a commercial breeding facility where life was not kind to her, and because of that, she is extremely shy, skittish, and startles easily. Solara is still learning that people can be kind, and she prefers to be touched only on her own terms.
Despite everything she has been through, Solara is making progress in foster care, but she is still very fearful of people. What she needs most is a patient, understanding adopter who will let her move at her own pace and celebrate the small victories along the way. We do not know if she will ever be a snuggler, as she is very guarded, but we are hopeful that as she continues to make progress, she will become more open to pets and cuddles.
What Makes Solara Special: Solara delights in the simple things. She loves going outside in a safe environment, basking in the sun, and doing adorable squiggle rolls in the grass. She also does well with other dogs, and having a canine companion nearby helps her feel more comfortable and confident.
What Solara Needs: Solara needs a calm, patient home with someone who understands that trust takes time. A securely fenced yard is required for her safety, as she enjoys being outside but can be easily startled. She will also need a resident dog in the home to help her feel secure and continue building confidence. It is best to start with her on a leash at all times to ensure her safety and help with approachability.
The Right Home for Solara: • Calm, patient household • Securely fenced yard required • Resident dog required • Adopter who understands fearful dogs and will let trust build slowly • Gentle, consistent routine and handling
Solara is spayed, up to date on vaccines, on heartworm prevention, kennel trained, and doing well with potty training. She would do best in a calm home with a companion canine and a patient person or family who understands that trust takes time. With kindness, consistency, and a gentle approach, Solara has the potential to blossom into a devoted companion.
